This Ramble involved a short section on a busy A road, also crossing Lake Windermere on the ferry.

Location : Windermere

OS Grid Reference : SD390909

Distance : 19.5 miles

Route Surface : Asphalt for 70% and stoney woodland track 30%

Category : Level 3

As the A592 is narrow and lots of bends, from the campsite to Ghyll Head Road. We went up Birks Road, on to Ghyll Head Road, joining the A592 were it is a bit wider and safer for us on the buggies. From the A592 we headed for the car ferry across Lake Windermere, once on the western side of the lake we turned right on to the track that takes you to a National Trust car park.

Once past the NT car park it was a very pleasant 3 miles, on a stoney woodland track following the western shoreline of the lake.

Path to the Boat House at Wray Castle.

After exploring some of the grounds around the castle, and having our picnic lunch we retraced our route back to the ferry.

Gill on the ferry on our return journey.

From the ferry we took a different route to Ghyll Head Road. This was on the B5824, A5074 and B5360, this way paid off as it was much better traffic wise.
