With it being so wet in early February, followed by the week or so of bitterly cold winds. Gill and I have not ventured out much this month. So with the lovely weather the last few days, we decided to venture a bit further than our local route.
So on Friday (26th Feb) we took a picnic lunch down to Powderham, following the Exe Estuary Trail on the western side of the River Exe.
With the length of daylight increasing, combined with the sunshine. We had a lovely chorus of birdsong, all setting out their territory for the breeding season.
The other signs of Spring, are visible with the number of different wild flowers starting to bloom. It surprised me how soon after the recent cold spell, all these blooms have appeared. Many of the deciduous trees and shrubs, are starting leaf up, particularly those in sheltered situations.
With the two photos of the Turf Hotel above, and the two of the old Lockkeepers cottage below. I wanted to compare Monochrome and Colour, I feel that certain details are more defined in Monochrome.
On Saturday (27th Feb) we again took a picnic lunch, this time to Lympstone. Following the Exe Estuary Trail on the eastern side of the River Exe.
As with yesterday we had a lovely sunny day, accompanied with bird song for most of the journey. With it being a weekend there were a lot more people, enjoying the weather.
While technically we broke the Covid rules, in the distance we traveled. But on both days we chose very quiet locations, where we stopped for lunch.
We really enjoyed being out in the sunshine, but still had the extra winter layers of clothes to keep us warm. Now that the daylight hours are increasing, we will try to get out more frequently.
