Having been out on Christmas Eve for a very short run by the river and canal, we were so cold Gill and I canceled our plans to take a picnic lunch out on Christmas Day. Instead we just took a flask of hot water, for a warming mug of coffee.

We did not take our cameras with us on Christmas Eve, so can not show the difference in the river levels. But the water levels in the Flood Relief Channel, had dropped over 2 feet, the flood channel is certainly doing its job. On Christmas Eve we could not see the 4 pillars in the photo below.

Having seen the weather forecast in the days before Christmas, we toyed with the idea of taking a picnic lunch on Christmas Day. As we got so cold on Christmas Eve, we decided to shorten the time out on the buggies.

We stopped for our coffee where the canal is at its widest, although it was sunny it was still very cold. So surprised to see the paddle boarders

After our coffee we made our way along the canal as far as the Topsham Ferry. By this time we were both starting to feel the cold, so turned round and headed home.

As we were both so cold, with a head wind, making it worse. The only time we stopped, was to talk to one of our nephews and his family who we met by chance. It was really nice to get out for a few hours, despite the extra layers, I was surprised how cold we got. We soon warmed up, with a bowl of hot soup at home.

May we both take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy and Healthy New Year.
