Today the WAG’s met at Belstone to try out a slightly different route, for this years Dartmoor Walking Festival. It was a small group today, only 4 of us on buggies with 3 walkers. We set off in sunshine, but with the wind chill making it feel cold for the buggy users.  We had been warned, so we were well wrapped up.

After deciding that the route we tried 2 weeks ago was too difficult,  for the Walking festival. We were trying out a possible circular route, which involved finding a suitable path / track from Winter Tor east into the Taw valley. The track from Cullever Steps to Winter Tor, was a lot rougher than it was 2 years ago. Gill & I both had our buggies on 2 wheels a couple of times, but managed to stay upright.

The route down into the Taw Valley, was not that well defined. It was a case of the walkers going ahead, to make sure it was ok for us to follow. Once in the valley we stopped for lunch, by one of the fords across the River Taw.

It started to rain whilst we were having lunch, so we packed up early to head back to Belstone. For most of the route we had a tail wind, so the rain was on our backs. As it was so wet I had to pack the camera away, so all the photos were taken before lunch.

Rain clouds approaching from the southwest

By the time we had loaded our buggies, I was glad to get out of the waterproofs. I was glad of the heating in the vans as well on the short journey home.
